What is NX CAD?

Siemens NX software is an integrated solution that aims to help users deliver better products faster and more efficiently. NX delivers design, simulation, and manufacturing solutions that enable companies to realize the value of the digital twin.

Supporting every aspect of product development, from concept design through engineering and manufacturing, NX gives users an integrated toolset that coordinates disciplines, preserves data integrity and design intent, and streamlines the entire process.

Siemens NX CAD is a product development solution: NX for Design offers features and capabilities to help get a product to market faster.

NX for Design aims to enable users to deliver products “right to market, first time" using more virtual product models and fewer, more costly, physical prototypes. This is to drive market gains, lower development costs, and improved product quality.

We are using NX CAD to develop our software in the NX environment.
  • The usage of NX CAD is quite intuitive
  • There is just not only one way to accomplish an engineering task
  • The handling of large assemblies is pretty good compared to other CAD-systems
  • Assembly weight management
  • Some features are pretty hard to understand cause the help is not very useful, especially new features
  • Early adoption features should be more accessible for users
It is well suited in any kind of product development scenarios. Due to pretty high license prices, it is not that well suited in smaller companies.

We are using NX CAD in the design and calculation. At the moment, we roll out in all plants and we need to train all the users in the best way to use it. Different departments use NX CAD for creation of the product, support and maintain the product. The problems are only in the mindset of the user, not in the program.
  • Changes are not shown in the normal setup
  • Complex menu
  • Starting time sometimes long
  • Better measurement function
  • More integration in the Apple world
  • Faster apps for tablets
Creation of sketch are easy, and the workflow direct on the model is perfect. The designer can work direct on the 3d model and doesn't need to move much on the screen. This is a big benefit for the designer because they need less moving time and the construction is super fast.

I technical support a group of 40 engineers in NX CAD and Teamcenter, I use NX CAD on daily basis
  • Design 3d models
  • Design model drawings
  • a mechanical design solution
  • all users use same methodology
can import different cad formats like step, dwg atc...
les appropriate for all users use the same method of work

We are using for Engineering and for Manufacturing.
We are leveraging the digital process
  • CAD Automation
  • Check-Mate
  • Assembly modeling
  • New Sketch environment
  • Piping functionality
  • Drafting with JT files
  • Multicad in Teamcenter
There are a lot of possible customization's, so you can create a personal custom code for lot of things. In my opinion, Is not user friendly for Plant engineering

Product Design for new products or customized products. NX CAD is used in combination with NX CAM for production
  • OpenNX programming availability
  • PMI management
  • additive manufacturing modules
  • integration with Rulestream
  • Integration with TC Classification
Well suited for high end engineering design, for large companies, especially when used integrated with Teamcenter.
Less appropriate for smaller companiers

Siemens NX CAD is being daily used for 3D Design & Drafting. It has simple User Interface & Multiple commands. It is user friendly. Very important 3D Modeling commands. It Supports 3D Modeling, Mold wizard, Sheet Metal, 2D Drafting, Assembly, Progressive Die tools, etc. It supports multiple export formats like, .x_t, iges, step, sldprt , etc.
  • It has simple commands for 3D Modeling
  • Its User interface is very simple
  • It is user friendly & supports team PLM
  • They Can add simulation for Plastics & FEA
  • They need to improve their updates & cost
  • They can improve their new versions & remove bugs
Siemens NX CAD support team is very responsive & active. They are having updates very frequently & good layout for commands & User interface. They have commands simple to use & operate on low configuration systems. Siemens NX CAD supports 3D modeling , 2D drafting. It has options for CAD library which is very useful for similar projects & easy reference.

We use Siemens NX CAD to fully develop and Design components and assemblies into the final product to visualize the product as well as to create manufacturing drawings. Siemens NX CAD works well as a whole product system to work within all development teams, as well as having traceable on who has parts open, and the history of changes
  • 3d modelling
  • Motion analysis
  • Detailed drawings
  • Accountability of users history with parts
  • The speed at which it processes large parts
  • Ease of dimensioning complex geometry in drawings
  • Improving the user interface to make it more in line with most other software currently on the market and making it feel like its in 2022
  • Being able to show more than one measurement on the screen at the same time.
It's great for complex and large projects eg the automotive or aerospace industry as it. It has a good way of managing and controlling all the large volumes of models. But it's not suited for doing small projects quickly on the other hand. Like one-off bespoke designs.

Siemens NX CAD is mainly used by us o draw and archive 3d and 2d technical drawings of tooling and product assemblies. For example testing tools for plastic products, we engineer and produce. Tooling can also be composed of many sub-components. We also need to manage 3d assemblies to create exploded drawings and assembly instructions.
  • Modeling
  • The thing that I need to keep all the parts, usually in common with other assemblies, in the same folder is very uncomfortable if I need to revise a single component.
  • I would prefer to have 1 file for each part and just select it when needed. (with Solidedge this is possible).
Even after years of using it I still find it more user-friendly and easy to customize and use programs such as Solidedge or Solidworks. The things that I cannot order constraints in an assembly are uncomfortable. The thing is that if I delete a function while modeling a component the error message never goes away, even if I correct and refresh is uncomfortable.

Norfolk Southern's equipment design and equipment manufacturing facility is made up of a 6 person engineering team that is responsible for designing and developing new and preexisting machines for Norfolk Southern. For a smaller design team, we really are only involved with the design and product development side of Siemens PLM software through the use of NX CAD, NX Nastran, and NX Cam. Having just recently purchased NX Cam, we have greatly increased the amount of products being produced while significantly increasing our products overall quality.
  • Seamless interaction across multiple departments.
  • The software allows you to create a very high level of control and organization within your engineering staff. This reduces the companies mistakes and maximizes productivity.
  • The software makes it very easy to track your product through every phase of the production cycle.
  • Speaking from experience with NX, each revision seems to be focused more on the layout of icons as compared to the functionality of the features.
  • Features within NX that have been used for years are no longer being used as a result of new revisions. Doesn't make a lot of sense to the end user. It would be nice to know what the reason is on a much larger scale (ie large customer recommendation?)

How many departments will be using the product?

How does each department or area within any given company work with or rely on each other? You have to know or be able to create a streamlined approach to doing work for the PLM software to really work. The software adds a lot of necessary structure.
